The final puzzle requires you to enter map coordinates (latitude and longitude) over at Mapquest, to discover Part 1 of the final answer.
(Use the upper portion with degrees, minutes, and seconds.)
To obtain the coordinates, you must first solve the following:
The theme of Day 1’s challenge was brands/companies. In Level 2, part of your challenge was to name a snack food. Figure out the year this snack food was first produced. Then, take the last two numbers of the year and add them together. Now multiply this number to the solution from the beverage equation in Level 1. This number is your latitude degrees.
To obtain your latitude minutes, follow these directions carefully:
The automobile brand you found in the shaded boxes is mentioned in a famous
song by Joe Walsh. Take the mph number mentioned in conjunction with the song,
and write it down.
The song first appeared on the soundtrack to a film called FM. Write down
the genre of music associated with the film and add an @ after it. Now go
to this link and find the channel number on XM Radio that’s name starts
with what you’ve just written down (the genre of music plus the @ symbol,
not the mph).
Now take the mph and subtract the channel number from it. This new number
is your latitude minutes.
Your latitude seconds = variable B from Day 1, Level 1.
Part of your challenge on Day 3 was to find the names of previous HDYK winners in a word puzzle. The puzzle was composed of a box of letters.
How many letters ran across the puzzle? This number is your longitude degrees.
In Level 3 of your challenge on Day 4, you had to find the names of 11 talk show host personalities. Hidden in the puzzle, spelled upward, from bottom to top, you'll find the
name of a 12th talk show host if you read the first letter of the third (solved) column. According to Encyclopedia Britannica,
this person began his/her career as an anchor and news reporter in Ohio in what year? The last two digits of this year are your longitude minutes.
Your longitude seconds = variable B from Day 1, Level 1.
When you have all your coordinates, plug them into the Mapquest tool.
Zoom all the way in and you should find yourself near a street that begins with the letter B and ends with the letter Z
Enter the name of the city this street is located in to move on to the final question of Day 5.
