The final puzzle requires you to enter map coordinates (latitude and longitude) over at Mapquest, to discover Part 1 of the final answer.
(Use the upper portion with degrees, minutes, and seconds.)
To obtain the coordinates, you must first solve the following:
We started you out on Day 1 Level 1 (D1L1) with Use The John crossword puzzle.
Which John graduated from Harvard in 1940? That John's accross number is your latitude degrees.
D3L1 had you ID-ing celeb babies. Express the birth date of the child of couple
#2 as mm/dd. Now add those two numbers together.
This new number is your latitude minutes.
In D2L1, you had to reconstruct characters from seven partial images.
According to this Web site, how many appearances did the character on the bottom left of the puzzle make in a 1995 Archie Comics comic book series?
This number is your latitude seconds.
To obtain your longitude degrees, follow these directions carefully:
In D4L2, part of your challenge was to unearth a clue in the shaded boxes at the bottom of the puzzle.
Using the standard cipher A=1, B=2, C=3, etc., take the sum of the numbers that make up the 4th word in the shaded clue and subtract the sum of the
numbers that make up the singular form of the last word.
Express this new number as a negative number and you have your longitude degrees.
Your longitude minutes and seconds are both identical to your latitude seconds. So you better make sure the latter is correct or your going to wind up in East Jabip.
When you have all your coordinates, plug them into the Mapquest tool.
Zoom in all the way and you should find yourself a stones throw away from a location very near and dear to all of us here at mental_floss, as of last week anyway.
Enter the name of the name of the road you find yourself on to move ahead to the final question of Day 5.
(N.B. enter only the name of the road; not the word road, or the abreviation rd.)
