Every Object Is a Playable Character in This New Video Game

The ability to switch between different characters in a video game is nothing new. However, Everything, a recently announced game for the PlayStation 4, tests the limits of that concept by turning every object into a playable character, The Verge reports.

The trailer for Everything highlights microbes, galaxies, and everything in between. Rocks, rabbits, and mushrooms dance in circles on the ground while stars and planets swirl around one another in the space.

"If you can see it, you can be it," the game's creator David OReilly wrote on the PlayStation blog. "The game lets you see the entire universe from the point of view of the thousands of things in it. In other words, there is no distinction between you and the world, or between a level and a character ... If you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a horse, or a paperclip, or the sun, this is for you."

OReilly has experience developing experimental games. He was the designer behind the 3D video game Joaquin Phoenix is shown playing in the 2013 movie Her. He also created the game Mountain, which involves players interacting with a free-floating mountain with no real end-goal. Everything sounds like it will be a significantly more ambitious undertaking. OReilly's new game doesn't have a set release date, but according to his blog post it will be exclusive to PS4. You can watch the trailer in the video above.
