While CBS is busy advertising on their dairy, the geniuses at the British Egg Information Service have a slightly different take on shell design. They've managed to create a better way to boil an egg, through a completely innovative process. In efforts to help the kitchenally challenged (a.k.a. bad cooks), the Service has decided to stamp eggs with a heat sensitive ink that turns black when your hard-boiled meal is ready. Pretty clever, eh? Called "PerfEGGs," the self-timing breakfast... READ ON

If your pampered pooch is getting fed up with that plain old bowl of tap water you keep perched next to his bed, you might want to check out K9 Water from Dog Bliss. Varieties of the filtered good include Puddle Water, Toilet Water, Gutter Water, and Hose Water (flavored to taste like Liver, Chicken, Beef and Lamb respectively), with no artificial colors or preservatives. The site claims the product will encourage dogs to drink more water and help "with proper hydration." Of course, we think... READ ON
I was doing some editing work for our next magazine this weekend (it's our annual 10 Issue!), when I read through Mark Juddery's fascinating piece on 10 TV Shows that Changed the World. And while a ton of the entries were pretty intriguing ("Dallas" made the list for helping to knock off a dictator!), I was particularly impressed by his entry on "Star Trek"—which I figured would just be about how it influenced inventors or something. It was far more intriguing than that, though. "Star... READ ON
This weekend I just finished reading Jonathan Lethem's Fortress of Solitude (which is messy, and poetic, and beautiful, and has a lot of great scenes featuring early hip-hop culture in Brooklyn in the 70s and 80s), and it made me think back on this clever/political British graffiti artist I read about in Esquire named Banksy. Anyway, this guy is too fascinating to ignore, so I figured I had to post about him. Some facts (from Wikipedia): "Banksy (born 1974) is a prolific graffiti artist from... READ ON
Being a huge fan of old computer and video games (I used to use my Texas Instruments computer like a security blanket way before Tandys were popular), I saw this Andy Roddick commercial and thought it was too clever not to post. It's like a thin slice of Nerdvana. Unfortunately, Roddick seems to have bad back injuries right now and I'm not sure if he's going to be playing in the US Open. Still, if he uses this sort of cunning on the court, maybe he can play through the ailments. Click... READ ON
Reuters is reporting today that police have ordered a British woman to take down a sign from her front yard that reads "Our dogs are fed on Jehovah's Witnesses." And while her neighbor just recently complained that the sign was offensive (incidentally, the only dog the woman owns is a terrier puppy named Rabbit), she's actually had the sign up for more than 30 years to keep door-to-door evangelists away. And while the sign story is somewhat interesting, I'm actually... READ ON
mental_floss' favorite inventor Nikola Tesla, who famously dreamed up AC current amongst a million other things, and inspired the names for the rock bands Tesla and AC/DC (or at least the first-half of the name AC/DC), now has a ridiculously cool electric car named for him. Tesla Motors, dubbed the Silicon Valley's first real car company, is debuting a sexy new sports car codenamed DarkStar. Apparently, the vehicle can run for 250 miles without needing a charge, fueling costs run about... READ ON
In one of the happier stories that I've read today, Reuters is reporting that a Polish man unintentionally saved a 110 lb. Saint Bernard who had been thrown out of a two-story window when he walked underneath it. The man, who was definitely caught off-guard (it's hard to prepare for that sort of thing), suffered some bruises, and a little psychological shock from the incident. As for the dog, who'd been defenestrated from said window by a drunken owner, he seems to have escaped with nary a... READ ON
I was reading G4's The Feed blog today (which I highly recommend, by the way), when I saw that G4 was strutting about and patting itself on the back for obtaining the exclusive rights to re-broadcast the brilliant-but-cancelled TV show Arrested Development. (Their less than modest press release reads: "Who Has Arrested Development? WE HAVE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.") Now for those of you who don't know G4, it's a cable channel that slants towards gamers and tech junkies, and... READ ON
