I'm in a pretty serious relationship with Google Analytics. As soon as I roll out of bed, I check the numbers. I also check in several times during the day. And I always check before I go to bed. Because our relationship isn't exclusive, I also like to look at other analytics sites to see how well they're tracking our numbers. Some sites are good, some are not. My favorite inaccurate website is Websiteoutlook.com, which bills itself as "the perfect place for website... READ ON
Boingboing stumbled into this lovely gallery of strange maps used to illustrate the situation during World War I. The strangest one had to be the map (below) called Dogs of War, where all of the countries are represented by their most popular dogs. The darkly comical text accompanying it tells how a dachshund (left alone by a frightened Italian greyhound) never stood a chance in the dogfight against Britain's bulldog, a surprisingly tenacious French poodle, and various other stereotypical breeds. If you... READ ON
TheCellar is reporting that a hungry sheep in Harrogate, North Yorkshire was looking for greener pastures on Friday, and jumped from the ground to the roof of a little shed. He then continued to show off his Q-bert like prowess by jumping from one roof to another, until he was on top of a second story... READ ON
Who knew that all this time I'd been using my Post-It notes incorrectly? From murals to pranks to couch fabric alternative, the WebUrbanist has some wonderful photos on different uses for Post-Its. Click here to check them... READ ON
Boingboing's got a crazy story about 18-year old James Harris, who has been arrested for wearing a transit uniform, stealing Miami buses, and driving them along their routes only to return them at the end of the day with none of the fare gone!? Apparently, he's done this at least 3 times, and he's picked up and dropped off passengers on every incident. Is it art? Is there something nefarious going on? Or is James just looking for some voluntary work to put on his college resume? Whatever the reason,... READ ON
The geniuses at DarkRoastedBlend, who I'm regularly envious of, have posted a gorgeous gallery of unfamiliar sea creatures. From firefly squid to leafy sea dragons, the animals are breathtaking. (Well, some of them are; others have no chance of being America's Next Top Mollusk). There aren't any jaguar sharks or crayon-colored seahorses in the mix, but there are plenty of stunners. Click here to see plenty... READ ON
This may be old news to you by now, but the design blog Colourlovers has a fascinating post on what the world looks like to the color blind. From famous logos (above) to art work (below), to distinguishing between the different types of color blindness, it'll make those of you who get the world in full Technicolor more appreciative of your eyesight. Lots more here. Thanks... READ ON
I just saw this amazing invention on Neatorama, and was totally awed by the simplicity of it. A Nigerian school teacher named Mohammed Bah Abba has invented a cheap and convenient clay pot method of keeping foods chilled, aimed to help poor villagers who don't have access to electricity. Mohammed Bah Abba's pot-within-a-pot idea was so clever that he nabbed a ROLEX Award, netting him $100,000 for his ingenuity. Here's how it works, according to Chris Gupta: "You take a smaller pot and put it inside a... READ ON
If my class ring had this sort of functionality, I would have bought one immediately. These finger food rings are available at Fred and Friends, and seem perfect for holding all your food with one hand, while thoughtfully scratching your chin and showing that you're pretending to listen with the other. As the description says, these ultimate multi-tasking tools help you balance "your glass and your hors d'ouerves, and look positively in control the whole time." They also warn "one size fits most." Hat tip... READ ON
Yesterday was the 39th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and company's historic moon landing. In digging around, I found these great photos on TheCellar. Apparently, they're the new vehicles from NASA's Constellation program (the mission to get man back on the moon by 2020). While I can't say I'm that excited about the program itself (didn't we already go to the moon?), these photos from the Johnson Lunar Yard are ridiculous! I'm not sure why everything's so shiny. After all, car washes seem like a chore to... READ ON
