"But married women caught watching the Games got it the worst: they were executed. Of course, that probably had something to do with the whole competing in the nude thing."

This had nothing to do with the morality of nudity in Ancient Greece; it had to do with the status of women, of which there were essentially three classes. A famous quote from the 4th century BCE goes, "we have hetaerae (courtesans) for pleasure, pallakae (concubines) to provide for our daily needs, and gynaekes (wives) to give us legitimate children and to be the faithful guardians of our homes". The married women were confined to the home and had the greatest restrictions on their movements. They were, essentially, baby-producing machines and little else (there did you think the word "gynecology" comes from?). Courtesans were the women with the greatest mobility in Greek society and the concubines were, essentially, slaves.

The author is obviously injecting his own present-day prudery into a topic that he has only researched superficially. The Ancient Greeks may have been a lot of things, but prudery was not part of their nature.
