Santa's stables must be HUGE!
In all of the pictures of Santa and his reindeer, all of his reindeer have antlers in winter. Only female reindeer keep their antlers year round, so they must all be female.

Ok, so if all the comments are correct and we count all these reindeer (but not the donkey), that brings us up to 63!!! Definitely enough for all exigencies, contingencies and other situations :-D

There are 8 reindeer in Jan Brett's book The Wild Christmas Reindeer named Bramble, Heather, Windswept, Lichen, Snowball, Crag, Twilight, and Tundra. Now THOSE are reindeer names. The only thing that would improve on that is if they were written in Davvisámegiella (what the northern Sami people speak).

In L. Frank Baum's excellent "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus," we learn that the first reindeer were named Flossie and Glossie, with eight others added later. They were Racer and Pacer, Reckless and Speckless, Fearless and Peerless, and Ready and Steady. The 1902 book gives all the particulars about their history, as well as Santa's origin.

LOL. I too remember singing Pablo the Reindeer from Mexico. It was in the early 70's! I still remember most of it and had a blast singing it all those many years ago! Happy Holidays!

How 'bout Pablo? When I was little, we learned a song in chorus one year called "Pablo the Reindeer from Mexico" -- I still remember bits of it.

I've heard so many people lately correcting everyone that it's Donder not Donner. :) Donder and Blitzen translate (I've heard) to Thunder and Lightning in German, which makes sense when paired together in the poem.

In elementary school, we had to sing a song called "Pablo, The Mexican Reindeer:"

"When Santa goes to Mexico
He takes a reindeer named Pablo
Pablo can sing and dance and play
He leads the reindeer all the way..."

When my brother and I were very young, we'd leave cookies for Santa and an apple or carrot for Rudolph. By the time we were 6 and 7, we thought that was unfair to the rest of the reindeer. So we decided to make them a salt-lick, having read that deer liked salt-licks. We didn't know what a salt-lick looked like, but improvised with an entire canister of Morton's poured all over the front steps. That's what our parents got for signing us up for National Geographic youth science books.
