speakers blip even when your phone doesn't seem to be doing anything because phones usually update the time like every 30 min or so. this page really helped me from thinking that it was all a gov't conspiracy. Thanks!

I made a Faraday cage for my first mobile phone over worries about radiation at the time. I used the mesh in the door of an old microwave oven and made a sleeve the phone could go in. Unfortunately it stopped the phone from functioning so I never really used it. It was also a bit unwieldy.

I have heard that CDMA phones don't do this - only GPRS.
That is, T-Mobile and ATT phones will cause the buzzing, but not Sprint and Verizon.

I don't have a sprint or verizon phone to test with, though.

Sometimes in the middle of the night my speakers make that noise. It always happens when my cell phone is near them, but no call is incoming. Is that maybe because the cell phone is picking up other cell phone signals?

On the flip side, this is one of the most excellent things one can do to battle against neighbors who love to play their stereos loud.

Step one, put your phone, or radio amplifier as close to the offending speaker as possible...

Step two, hope that it bloody well interferes with their system proper, and drives them as nuts, as they drive you.

Could be worse, my 1986 travel trailer has a built-in Yorx stereo system that whenever my phone rings, the stereo powers on and goes to max volume over and over. it got so bad that i started using txt messaging since that doesn't appear to do that.

I haven't seen a electronic device interfere enough to turn other gadgets on since the days of TV Remotes having ultrasonic emitters in the 1980s.

My phone is 2 metres away from the speakers. I guess it's time to start hunting out a pair of shielded speakers. :-/

My cell phone is, in fact, in my pocket and it still makes the noise when I approach my computer speakers. I'll try one of the solutions suggested here.
