Mine make the noise all the time. My Verizon phone was fine, but my Tracfone is horrible. But I get the noise even when it is off. My headphones are fine. Are there any speakers that are shielded? Very tired of listening to th noise.

Could be the case, but when I'm playing GTA4 on my pc and I'm about to be called I hear it too. And don't tell me my game is connecting with a cell-tower.

I'm used to those noises in my audio system, but with my new Android-based phone not only the speakers go wild, my electric shave sometimes turns on when I place the cell phone directly next to it!

FWIW, there are some modern devices that are shielded. For example my office recently got new conference phones (Polycoms?) that have stickers on them saying "no cell phone buzz" -- and it's true, they seem immune to this kind of interference.

Also FWIW, I've found that when my device (which is on AT&T and thus uses GSM technology -- different than the CDMA that Verizon and others use) is using 3G data service, it doesn't seem to make any of these noises. When it falls back to EDGE (which often happens when driving around hills and stuff), the blooping madness comes in. So it appears that 3G service is involved somehow, at least in my case.

Verizon phones cause static too, to the guy who posted that comment about some phones not doing it.

I have a wood desk with cubbies in it. I moved one speaker to one cubby each (on their sides) and the subwoofer lives in the lower middle cubby. The top is about 1" thick, real wood, and I can set my speakers and laptop up there now (running or not) without static interference. Of course, if I move the laptop off the table top, then the distance rule applies. This is the best solution I've come up with. They are still subject to the occasional "through the wall" static, tho.

On the cars... I have never had this problem in my car, both w/and w/out factory speakers, with att or verizon. I have never, however, use a factory stereo, a stereo older than 10 years, or one of the analog, old school types w/no cd, so it may b that modern stereos are a shielded.

my computer is hooked up to my stereo system, and just before my phone rings, i hear a sound coming from my speakers and my computer screen start freaking out. sometimes it does this and my phone doesn't do anything. could it be because i live in an apartment complex?

If you pass a magnet over a cellphone, it starts to lightup and even make the screen flip upside down.

Here's my craziest experience: there are times when it doesn't matter how far away my phone is. My speakers will still pick up the conversation between the tower and my phone. Explain that one!

speakers blip even when your phone doesn't seem to be doing anything because phones usually update the time like every 30 min or so. this page really helped me from thinking that it was all a gov't conspiracy. Thanks!
