I saw the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band live on New Years Eve in Glasgow, Scotland in 2004-2005. They really do know how to Pipe.

That is one of my best memories from that night other that seeing Snow Patrol before they were big over here in the states.

It’s four collied birds actually, but since people only hear what they want to hear, for example, words that are familiar to them, this gradually became calling birds. For some reason this makes more sense to people than a old-timey term for a blackbird (collied).
