... and “my favorite things” as well as other songs from “The Sound of Music” are considered christmassy, because the movie was released at christams time.

“goyum!!!!”(*rolling of eyes*)"

Except, Sound of Music was released in March 1965. So sorry.

Sorry but Tom Lehrer is Jewish. Check Wikipedia! How could someone who wrote such clever songs and be a mathematician NOT be?

BTW, he said back in 1973 that awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Kissinger made political satire obsolete.
And now Nixon's tapes prove that all over again.

"surprising, considering the etymology"
Well, no, it really should not be surprising, because Adam was not Jewish.
The first Jew was Abraham the idol maker. But while the characters who people the first part of the Old Testament may be considered the common ancestors of Muslims, Christians and Jews, none of them before Abraham can be considered Jewish. That includes Noah, by the way.

Adolphe Adam, the man who wrote the music to “O Holy Night,” was Jewish.
posted by Janel on 12-17-2007 at 8:37 pm

Wrong. He was Roman Catholic (religious funeral in the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette church in Paris). In Alsace, "Adam" is a rather common surname. You can find both Lutheran and Catholic families bearing this surname, but not one Jewish family. Surprising, considering the etymology, but true. After all, Danes named "Jacobsen" or Swedes named "Thomasson" are almost never Jewish, are they ?

These are interesting facts. Doesn't change the impact of the songs any of course. Kids really like the songs even if they weren't originally meant for Christmas like "Let It Snow" This post reminds me of when KISS was in the Christmas episode of Family Guy.

None of these Christmas songs mention Christ or his birth which is what Christmas is about. These songs may be beautiful but they fail to capture the real meaning of the holiday. They should be callled seasonal songs because there is nothing "holy" about these songs. Unfortunately some people do not know the difference because they have been miseducated. , Christmas is not about snow, reindeers, silver bells, and the like. In addition, just because you are born into or practice a particular religion does not make you a believer. I do not understand the significance report nor the coorelation.

Anyone want to explain to me how "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas" is NOT about Christmas???

And for those of you worried about whether or not Christ should be part of Christmas... the holiday we celebrate now originated in Babylon thousands of years before Jesus of Nazareth was born. You decide what (or who) you're celebrating...
