Mecca Pilgrimage does not exclude Muslim women. If you look closely at the photograph posted, you can see them. They're the ones who are in black.

The Ganga arti in Haridwar which is located at the foothills of the Himalayasis is absolutely beautiful (Another location in India ). Every evening at 6 p.m. prayers are done by hindu priests and then thousands of deyas or mini candles are floated down the river in baskets made out of flowers. I estimate that there must have been over 20 000 people on the evening I was there tourists and locals.

In regard to gender equality it also makes us really angry that the Mecca Pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia excludes moslem women and non-moslem men and women both. So we should not single out Eastern Orthodox Mt Athos as being discriminatory and should mobilize feminist organizations and UN and World committees to attack the discriminatory practices of the moslems at Mecca? Are we afraid to do this? No, we know the protests will simply be ignored.

As an agnostic, I would love to see all these sites. There’s something about not being tied to any one belief that allows you to appreciate other beliefs without any prejudices.

Shame you can't go to Mecca but I can understand it. It's hard enough there with just the believers on hajj without others increasing the numbers.
