One of my favorites that is also very sci-fi related the poison vendor in grizzly hills (Amberpine Lodge) named Saffron Reynolds in reference to a character of that name from Joss Whedon's show Firefly.

There is a Catelyn the Blade, who made me think of George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. The spelling of Catelyn made me think of it.

Foxtrot's Bill Amend plays WoW and made a comic where he mentions an item called "Doomulus Prime" that Jason manages to get. WoW put a weapon into the game called Doomulus Prime as an homage and Bill Amend mentioned that the worst part is that when he was offered it in a quest, he actually chose the other item because it was better for his Shaman.

In Grizzly Hills near the Alliance camp, there are a fawn, rabbit, skunk that wander around and are named very close to Bambi, Thumper and Flowers.

In the sewers of Dalaran, there is a rat talking to four turtles,, tmnt ref there.

If you have the pet Stinky out and someone has the bombay cat, your skunk will fall in love with the cat and take off after it. Comes back later with broken heart.. love live Pepe.

The pet firefly one is the Captive Firefly, a rare drop from the fireflies in Zangarmarsh, with the flavor text "Still flying!" I chuckled at the Mudder's Milk. It was appropriate (and effective) stuff to get totally smashed on for the "Disturbing the Peace" Brewfest achievement.

I was really disappointed that the final quest in the Borean Tundra chain from those druids who were a thinly-veiled reference to PETA wasn't to kill Hemet Nesignwary. After five years and some highly excessive number of characters going out and killing X of this beast and Y of that for his mind-numbingly boring quests, I was really hoping I'd get a chance some payback. Speaking of Papa, there's an NPC called Old Man Heming in Booty Bay, who sells (or used to sell) a fishing training book.

That's one of the things that makes WoW what it is: it doesn't take itself (or anything else) too seriously.
