Oy! How could you forget Molly Goldberg? One of the most famous radio shows, 17 years worth. Also a TV show. OK, so she wasn’t a real person, so sue me. What, a person has to be real to be appreciated? After all the heartache you can’t call once in a while? The Goldbergs was the first “show about nothing” on TV. So, a person can’t brag a little?

There’s a television program in Japan whose name translates as “Pythagoras Switch.” They play a little jingle at the conclusion of every Goldberg machine that I defy you not to have stuck in your head after watching a batch of them.

There was a Honda commercial, a recent Guinness commercial, and a piece of the set in the movie “Waiting” that are other great examples of these convoluted contraptions.
