I attend College of the Ozarks, where I work in the Agriculture Department, and one day last spring someone called and offered us a two-headed (dead) calf. Apparently they'd sent some cows to slaughter and it turned out one was pregnant.
We didn't accept. What were we supposed to do with a dead, two-headed calf?

As another CPP alumnus, what a nice surprise to see Cal Poly (Pomona) get some attention.
Dave S. - if you're really curious, the campus library has an pretty sizeable exhibit devoted to the history of the campus, Kellogg's role in its development and growth, and of course the Arabians. There's also a campus Equestrian Center if you're really that curious.
Nick - funny seeing you on here. Or not - I suppose I should have expected people like us to read blogs like this...

That's not quite the story I heard with Carnegie and Princeton...
Carnegie disapproved of the rough aspect of football, which Princeton was known for at that point in time. To keep Princeton students from being to fixated on such a violent sport, he donated a lake to the University to promote a more peaceful athletic event.

Apparently I can't submit a comment with a link, so Google Carnegie Princeton Football and you should find the original article :)

As am alumnus of Cal Poly Pomona, I'm glad my school made it into the blog. I've never seen the "Cal Poly" hyphenated.

As a note, to the native Pomonan, the Student Orientation Office should be able to address your queries. I'm not sure if most students pay attention at orientation anyways.

Its still rather amazing that for how ruthless ,mean and self centered the robber baron Carnegie his donations set up the first community based libraries across North America (Canada and the USA). The names of the libraries were the nameofcommunity Carnegie Library.
I wonder did he do this while living or in his will ?
Its often not known or appreciated that the origin of the morally pure Nobel prizes was from the fortune of Alfred Nobel whose invention of dynamite
not only was used in construction but also in military bombs and bombing

Born in Pomona, California, I always wondered why Cal-Poly Pomona had an Arabian horse emphasis, and also wondered where the name "Kellogg Hill" came from. No one I ever asked over four decades knew the answer. How splendid to, in one brief paragraph here, stumble across the answers.
