Wednesday couldn’t have arrived at a better time, right between Tuesday and Thursday. And to celebrate, it’s time for our lunchtime quiz…
It’s simple: We list nine cover versions of Beatles songs that hit the Billboard Top-20 in the 1960s and 1970s, and you’ll identify the artist responsible for each of those recordings. Click to take our NOT the Beatles quiz, then return here and post your score in the comments. And be honest. Ringo’s watching!
Aced with ease.

Alright, so I did really bad, BUT Aretha Franklin did a fantastic version of Fool on the Hill, so technically that wasn’t wrong. :p

Yes, k8, she did — but her version wasn’t top-20. I presumed that one would trip up a few people!

44%, which made me feel pretty dumb until I saw the average is only 26%. Now I feel just kinda dumb.

5 out of 7! And based on my reputation as a pop music fanatic, I would say that while my score doesn’t necessarily mean I’m a loser, it certainly means that I’m not what I appear to be.

Finally, an easy quiz! I aced this sucker!

Sweet, I got 100%!

Gah. I consider myself a huge Beatles nut, but I’ve never heard of Aretha’s Eleanor Rigby (although it intrigues me now), or Robin Gibb’s Oh Darling, so I mixed those two up. Seriously, if you didn’t know those versions existed, wouldn’t you think it would be the other way around?
Can this be graded on a curve for people born in the 80s?

100% … No need to grade on the curve for people born in the 50’s. :-)

Liz: the Gibb version of “Oh Darling” comes from the legendary cinema stinker “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” I cannot stress this enough: YOU ARE BETTER OFF NOT KNOWING THAT THIS FILM EXISTS.

The only band i’ve ever heard of is the Beatles…and the Deaths. I think they did a one minute version of Help! Who’s Aretha Franklin anyway? I’m just a fool on a hill…

I got a %44…pretty sad. But thanks….that was really interesting!

No curve needed. I’m a late 80’s child and I got 100%.

How about you do the reverse.. Songs the Beatles poached from other people, and/or songs Elvis poached from other people..
Beatles and Elvis are huge sacred cows..

Wow. GOOD QUIZ! But they should rename the website: “Mental Floss – Feel Dumb Again.” Got 44%, guessed on all but the Earth-Wind-Fire song. At least I’m smarter than ‘average’… After all these years, how could I have missed these covers?
