Happy (belated) birthday Helvetica! The typeface turned 50 last year and feted with the release of an eponymous independent documentary film. While Helvetica has claimed its own place in history, still, it remains only one of myriad options on your Microsoft Word toolbar. Think you can tell one typeface from another?

Take the Fontastic Quiz!

  1. Only 50%, but I really do know my comic sans serif!

  2. 70% for me, not too bad! That Tahoma threw me, damn.

  3. 60%-not too bad. I did used to like Comic Sans!!! Now my favorite is Georgia. :)

  4. Wow! I can’t believe I got them all right. Jiminy – that’s a shock.

  5. Woot!!! 90% Can you make a print-and-cut award so I can post this at work? ;)

  6. 70% – not bad! I’d never seen Trajan before, and got a couple of others mixed up. I like Lauren’s idea – we devoted _flossers could maybe hang those up around the office instead of boring continuing ed certificates or other such workery.

  7. 60%…Tahoma threw me off too!

  8. 80%…and I actually KNEW the 2 that I got wrong but changed my answer. Grrr.

  9. I want a certificate! Font Freaks Unite!

  10. Got ‘em all right–though I’m not sure how. Yay!

  11. I’m with Ang! Give me more fonts! I just can’t get enough!!!

  12. Or we could wear badges like Girl & Boy Scouts :)

  13. 70%…I actually got Tahoma but a few others threw me. I’d venture that everybody taking this quiz recognized Comic Sans off the bat. Its like seeing an old ex- you can recognize them from across the room, you remember the good times you had, but you hide your face because you never really wanted to see them again.

  14. Haha Erin…that is so true. Not to mention, I don’t think anyone would even consider going back for a one-nighter with Comic Sans.

  15. 70% Futura was easy, as I’m a fan of Wes Anderson’s movies, and it has become sort of a trademark for him as part of the look and feel of his films.

  16. I got them all right!
