Sometimes it’s hard to follow up a monster hit-song. Often, bands and artists careen off into the where-are-they-now? category with less friction than they tore up the charts in the first place. We all remember the tunes, but it’s harder to recall their names or the acts that made ‘em famous.

Oh, what? You don’t think so? Well then, turn up those speakers and ease on down 1-hit one-der lane. And be sure to come on back and let us know how well you made out… and stay tuned for part 2 next Friday!
Heck ya! 10/10 =)

Fun music to listen to, but way too easy! 10/10

Woohoo! 100%! My immense library of useless knowledge and odd music has finally paid off.

Way too easy. I got 10/10 and I had never even heard of some of the songs or groups.

100% WAY too easy! Now how do I get the mash up of Macrena and Turning Japanese out of my head?
posted by Lynne on 2-8-2008 at 11:15 am
10/10
A quiz like that would make good use for that timer function in the Lucky Charms quiz. It was really easy but if you could add a speed element, it might add more challenge.

100% yea Baby, YEA!!!
Who says watching VH1 never pays off? Now when is the Flavor of Love quiz??????
posted by William on 2-8-2008 at 11:26 am
Wooo Hooo! 10 out of 10, Baby! That was too easy.
Anyone remember AEIOU & Sometimes Y from Ebn Ozn??? I fricken loved that song!
posted by Groovygaia on 2-8-2008 at 11:34 am
Yeah, that was just way too easy. Now, a quiz about one-hit wonders whose one hit charted, like, between 31 and 40 in the Billboard Top 40, *that* would be more of a challenge.

Totally needed that! 10/10.

I think I’m turning Japanese….I really think so….. is actually about masturbation! NICE!
way too easy of a quiz. Gimme something harder- I’m gonna go turn Japanese now! HA

Wow, everyone that posted here is a 100% but the average score is 81%…curious.
Anyway, I was an 80%-er, didn’t know Amii Stewart or Shakespear’s Sister.
I was expecting something a bit harder as well, I couldn’t believe Baby Got Back was on there!
posted by Amauriel on 2-8-2008 at 12:15 pm
10/10 Baby. I made a mix cd just last week with those exact 10 songs. How wierd is that?!

Woo hoo, 10/10! It’s amazing what the 70′s did to our brains….

haha 100% easy…i am a huge fan of one hit wonders! i do suggest that you listen to the original version of “torn” by ednaswap…it is so not supposed to be a pop song! in fact i was actually really pissed when natalie imbruglia covered it!
posted by stef on 2-8-2008 at 12:24 pm
I got 100% too. I hadn’t heard of Shakespeare’s Sister or Amii Stewart, so lucky guesses on those for me.
posted by Melodye on 2-8-2008 at 12:27 pm
100 percent here. I’m old enough to have bought Amii Stewart’s “Knock on Wood” on a 45. And I’m a Shakespear’s Sister fan as well – “Stay” was #1 for eight weeks in the UK and has an awesome video, for those who care to Google it.

100%! (Some I’ll admit I didn’t know but guessed by process of elimination.)
Sure, it was a little easier than most, but it feels good getting them all right once in a while.
posted by bre on 2-8-2008 at 12:53 pm
I’d only heard 3 of them ever, but I still got a 10/10
posted by Sarah on 2-8-2008 at 12:56 pm
100% I’m still hoping Rock’n'Roll Jeopardy comes back so I can be on it!
So I really enjoy most of those songs, and I could even deal with the Macarena, but listening to “Torn” made me want to smash my head against a wall. Ugggg.
Unfortunately there is a radio station here in DC (Mix 107.3) that still thinks its 1998 and I swear its the only song they play. She must be a billionaire by now in 107.3 royalties alone.

I love that EBN OZN song!
“Yeah. Call me if you want to!”
10 for 10.
This quiz was a little easy, but music trivia is always fun.

Yay! My very first 100%! And of course it’s on the one that everyone thinks (er… knows?) is too easy. Le sigh…

Heck Yes! 10 out of 10
I once worked backstage security for Rick Derringer, he’s nicest guy you could ever meet. He is far from being a one hit wonder. He is also the man responsible for giving us Wierd Al Yankovic.

Laughably easy, and I am hearing-impaired. Plus most of those songs are on my iPod.
Here’s hoping next Friday features some Rick Astley!

Mixed up “Mac…” and “Wood”

As an added note, Paul Rogers, of Free, also did well with Bad Company and The Firm, as well as a short stint with Queen. So, he is not a OHW.
posted by gus on 2-8-2008 at 9:21 pm
Remember that Free sold millions of albums and had three years of success. I think if Paul Kossoff didn’t become a drug addict and the band stayed together, those Bad Company hits could’ve easily been Free hits. Oh well.
And if I’m not mistaken, Rick Derringer had a hit with”Hang On Sloopy” when he was with The McCoys. And I’m pretty sure Gary Numan’s “Are Friends Electric” was a number one hit – at least I played it in numerous cover bands.
