When I work from home, I feel like a combination of Dr. Jason Seaver from Growing Pains and Howard Hughes in The Aviator. Productive, happy, and slightly insane.
Less time commuting means more time to work. But it also means more time to clutter things up. Going through my closet this morning, a big box of magazines poured out. My sneakers protected my toes from a debilitating paper cut. Next time, I might not be so lucky.
So, I need to unload 30 copies of mental_floss. As it’s in my best interest to increase subscriptions, we have a two birds/one stone situation. Plus, I have a drawer full of manila envelopes I’d also love to part with.

Here’s a chance to try before you buy (or in this case, subscribe). I will mail one (1) free issue to the first twenty people who leave a comment asking politely. I’ll email you back to get your contact info. And the first ten (10) people who send me an instant message (’flossyjason’ on AIM) will also receive a free magazine.
If you aren’t one of the lucky 30, you can start filling your own closets with mental_floss by subscribing today. (If you have really big closets to clutter, you can order the Complete-as-it-Gets set.)
I look forward to hearing from you.
I would LOVE an old issue of mental_floss!! Can you please send me one??

I love this website! I’d love a free issue. I have the games and two of the t-shirts. I don’t know why I
don’t have the subscription too.

Please, kind sir, would it be possible for me to have an old copy of Mental_Floss? It would be truly a gift I would gratefully and fondly cherish forever.

Please send a free issue if you are so inclined. I’d like to see if the paper edition is as good as the online. But I’d hate to be a bother. If it isn’t too much trouble, I’ll be in your debt.
Thank you, kind sirs.

I would dearly love an issue. Preferably not one of the last two, because I already bought those. :) But I’ll take what I can get, and I’ll like it! (I like to pass them on to a friend of mine living overseas.)

I have tried on numerous occasions to convince my better half of the virtues behind a subscription to Mental Floss (marreid guys KNOW the woman controls the funds). So far she has not been swayed by my well reasoned lucid arguments. Unfortunately I’m not big on shopping (meaning I’d sonner go to prison wearing a dress than go into ANY store) so I haven’t made the effort to procure a copy on my own. I would be extremely grateful to receive a copy of Mental Floss in order to bring my wife around and secure my own subscription. Could you please find it in your heart to help me by sending me one of these issues?
posted by John on 2-8-2008 at 10:37 am
Darn it! There were only 16 requests when I started typing!

This darn thing called work kept me from being one of the first 20. But if I were one of the first twenty, I would politely and kindly request a copy, so that I could give it to my dad. That way, he’d see the virtues of mental_floss and subscribe, since I already have a subscription.
Thank you

Bummer…I’m too late (again…groan).
Oh well, thank you for the offer. Next time I’ll try not to let work interfer with my daily flossing. ;-)

i have always purchased each issue at a local news stand and your website makes my work day palatable. i think that two of my brothers would be huge fans of the magazine. however, tehy are both very miserly. So if there are any issues left at this point i would be very happy if you could send one to a sibling of mine.

Fie and bugger, I missed the chance of a lifetime.
:( Poor students can’t afford 13 dollar magazines…
Sigh.

Dear Jason,
I rilley-rilley luvz your blog and torment my co-workers and friends with it daily. I am totally a Mental Floss junkie! If you happen to have an copy of the magazine at the end of this craziness I would be most honored to give it a home.

All these kind folks begging you for things and no one asking how you are doing? How are you? It’s not about me, it’s about you. So what can we do for you? If it makes you feel good, then you may send me a past edition.

I floss every day, actually several times a day. I just subscribed so I would really love to see one of the older issues before the 6-8 weeks processing time passes and I start receiving my very own copies. Could you kindly forward me an issue? It would truly be appreciated.
Thank you so much and have a great day!

Keep your magazines. I don’t want one. If you send me one, I’ll send it back. Honest, I will!
(I figure since I’m so far down on the list, I might as well try reverse psychology, right?)

Crap, I missed it!
Well, i’ve subscribed for 2 or 3 years already, so maybe it wouldn’t be fair.
Which reminds me, I gotta renew that once I get some cash.
