I’m getting to this pretty late, but I’ve really enjoyed the comments. Notice how Andréa hasn’t yet told us where she was at the time in question…

Meanwhile, I agree with Roger that “Poppy Field at Vetheuil” is a favorite… But then, I haven’t met a Monet I didn’t like. I also like just about anything van Gogh painted. As for the “unfinished” look of the Degas, that’s just his style (sometimes, at least). Not exactly my favorite; I prefer his ballerinas.

BTW, anybody checked eBay lately…?

My theory: Kim Jong Il, it’d be yet another hostage to hold western civilization at bay. The problem for free agent thieves is similar to the quandary of the male preying mantis, but who knows, this could have been done on commission.

That *is* a little suspicious… where exactly were you, Andrea, at say 4:30 PM Monday? You don’t want the Swiss army after you… once they break out their multi-purpose pocket knives, it’s over.

In the news accounts that I’ve heard, they’ve all said that “Poppy Field at Vetheuil” is not one of Monet’s better-known works. Yet it’s always been a favorite of mine. And, as I think I’ve confessed here before, I always have a soft spot for Van Gogh. The Degas work seems somehow unfinished to me, though.

Where exactly do these thieves think they’re going to unload these paintings???
