As I look out the window and see four inches of new snow in the yard, my thoughts drift away to sunny islands in the warm ocean. What better time for an identify-the-island quiz?
It’s easy: There are outlines of ten well-known islands on the left, and you match them up with the island name on the right. Click to take our Eye-lands quiz, then return here to post your score in the comments.

Yay! 100%. If only my useless knowledge were good for something… (irony intended)

10 out of 10! Woo-Hoo!

70% – not great, but considering how geographically challenged I am at times pretty good!

Yea haw, 10 for 10! However, I do work in the Travel industry, so I should know my islands…

I knew that geography degree would come in handy. 100%!

10 big ones! *pride* This was a toughy, though. I can’t claim total knowledge. 9 and 10 came down to an only mildly sure guess.

OK. How many did this from memory? Don’t lie to your self.
posted by Russ on 2-13-2008 at 11:36 am
I agree with Russ. I did it from memory and only got 5/10. I do love that my island (England) was included, since most people don’t really see it that way.
posted by Tricia on 2-13-2008 at 11:49 am
I correct myself. Great Britain, not just England.

10 of 10 too! Good old process of elimination… Some were only guesses based on eliminating other choices.
posted by Julia on 2-13-2008 at 1:04 pm
purely from memory, I was 8-10. Not too bad, as I only mixed up Jamaica and New Guinea, which do look fairly similar.

10 of 10, woo hoo! I heart maps! though I dont heart being so bored at work that I’m taking island quizzes.

10 for 10…..whats up with sicily’s flag? The land of the 3-legged race?

80% I guess that’s pretty good!

10 / 10
Jamaica and New Guinea were the hardest. My little sister would not have had that problem, as Jamaica is her third hume.

I’d like to thank the World Traveler IQ application on Facebook for my 10/10 score.
(I’m terribly addicted, and now know tons of useless geography)

It’s about time I got one right.

Yes, 100% without off-site Internet assistance.
The toughest for me were Tasmania and Hawaii.
posted by Caleb on 2-13-2008 at 3:13 pm
8 out of 10 – I confused Tasmania and Hawaii, which are quite similarly shaped.
I was also thinking Madagascar might be the Isle of Man until I realized that was the Sicilian flag…

10 for 10, to easy!!! All the islands were oriented with north up. Tasmania only looks like Hawaii if you flip it on it’s side.

It almost makes up for coming in 2nd in the geography bee in 7th grade.

100% PERFECT.
You guys should make it harder like putting islands like Nauru & Tristan de Cunha.

How can someone get 9 of 10?
posted by Pé on 3-18-2009 at 7:03 am
Um, one small technicality – “Japan” isn’t an island. It’s an archipelago consisting of over 6,000 islands.
posted by Dan on 8-7-2009 at 11:23 am
10 for 10…I was shocked. New Guinea and Jamaica I was certain I would get messed up…then I realized I couldn’t recall Jamaica having any outlier islands.

10 for 10. no help.
posted by bandy on 5-26-2010 at 9:29 pm
I was wondering the same as Pe` when I transposed 2 answers and scored 8/10. But if you fail to use all the numbers and duplicate one of your answers you can score 9/10. I tried it and it does work.

Yea, tougher islands next time. Like Attu, Isle of Man, Sardinia and Azores. 10 of 10, no help on the first pass. Zip, zoom, kaboom.

No help, straight from memory. Now if you asked the same but just with Caribbean islands, I would get 30% if I am lucky.
