Sometimes it’s hard to follow up a monster hit-song. Often, bands and artists careen off into the where-are-they-now? category with less friction than they tore up the charts in the first place. We all remember the tunes, but it’s harder to recall their names or the acts that made ‘em famous.

Oh, what? You don’t think so? Well then, turn up those speakers and ease on down 1-hit one-der lane. And be sure to come on back and let us know how well you made out…[And if you missed the first installment of this quiz, go check it out here.]
Woo hoo 10/10 again! I like the easy ones. They give me such feelings of accomplishment…

Finally I got 10/10 on a mental_floss quiz. :D

100%, natch. So let’s throw in a random fascinating fact, shall we? The “Mickey” of Toni Basil’s song was Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees. Discuss.

I’ll go ahead and jump in to pull the curve down. ;-) I got 80%, but only because I flipped ‘Bang a Gong’ and ‘Let the Music Play.’

10/10- again too easy, but again, fun.

Perfect 10! Still too easy but really fun.

10/10!!
But I will admit, I only got a 60% on the original one. :/

100% – Pretty easy. Maybe if the clips were shorter it would be harder.

100% again. Either these one hit wonder quizzes are easy or I have too much music tucked into my brain.

100% Didn’t know the Dutchie song, but figured it out by elimination. Gotta love the music quizzes.

100% for the fm radio rock goddess

10/10
Lori L…. Really?! I can’t believe I’d never heard it was about Mickey Dolenz!
posted by Debi on 2-15-2008 at 1:29 pm
100% on both quizzes. :D
posted by mrs.djs on 2-15-2008 at 1:53 pm
“Mickey” by Toni Basil was *NOT* about Micky Dolenz. It was originally called “Kitty” and was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn.

10/10 Woohoo! That was actually a little too easy, most songs just needed the first couple of notes…kinda like name that tune :-)
posted by JllyBnr on 2-15-2008 at 3:07 pm
100 again :) I agree it was a total name that tune type for me. For most, it just took a note or two :)
posted by Luna on 2-15-2008 at 3:20 pm
10/10 Very easy, like the last. Does Thomas Dolby count as a one hit wonder? What about “Hyperactive” and “Europa”?
posted by Drew on 2-15-2008 at 4:09 pm
I disagree with your classification of T Rex as a One Hit Oneder, Marc Bolan and T Rex had many other popular songs and albums (though mostly in the UK).

I’ve never gotten a straight 100% on a mental_floss quiz before today…
No, wait, I got a perfect on the “We Didn’t Start The Fire” quiz too…
Keep bringing the rock music quizzes!

100% again! I love it when I actually know the answers!! When do we get part 3?
posted by CB on 2-15-2008 at 5:09 pm
100%. Again with the ridiculous ease! Of course, my brain is 76% crappy song lyrics, with the other 24% taken up with actual, useful knowledge. If I could just delete some of the song lyrics from my brain (do I really need to know all the words to Rick Astley songs? Wait – yes I do), I’d be all set.

100%. Should I be ashamed that 6 of these are on my iPod?
posted by Jim on 2-15-2008 at 5:23 pm
100% Whoo Hoo!
I am also embarrassed to admit that I was a roadie for Wild Cherry in the late 70’s. They taught me (accidentally) that getting a college degree was essential.
posted by Don on 2-15-2008 at 6:03 pm
10/10. And 10/10 on the first one, too. My brain was very moldable during those years . . .
posted by kittymama on 2-15-2008 at 9:12 pm
100% Again! Give us a challenge! :-) Anyone over the age of 30 should know these songs. Heck – most of them are on my MP3 player right now!
posted by Groovygaia on 2-15-2008 at 9:27 pm
Okay, given I knew all the songs (the aural analogue of) sight unseen, this was another 10/10. In fact the Shakespear’s Sister one on quiz #1 was the only one I wasn’t familiar with. And what’s with the accusation that _Mambo No. 5_ was Lou Bega’s one hit? What’s that thing I hear in the trailer to _Fool’s Gold_? (No it’s not a Tricky question.) I’ll wait for something hard like state license plates.

Jill: Yes, that’s true. However (from Wikipedia, among other sources): “Basil’s crush on actor and Monkee Micky Dolenz during her work as a choreographer/dancer on the set of the Monkees 1968 movie, “Head” prompted her to change the lyrics to “Mickey” to better suit her real-life experience, and the gender from female to male.”
Close enough for you?

easy 100%…maybe use some more obscure one hit wonders next time?
