Even though there’s novels, TV shows, other movies and even toys to use as inspiration for their films, Hollywood writers still love to adapt real stories. Sometimes the result is a painful mangling of the facts (A Beautiful Mind, anyone?), but often the real story is as captivating as any a writer could have come up with. We’ve compiled 15 films, some based on true stories and some that are too good to be true. Can you tell the truth from fiction?

  1. Cool! 87% – I’ll take that. There were a few that I remembered in book form from my days as a bookseller (i.e., fiction vs. nonfiction), so that helped a lot.

  2. Wow! 93% – I’m so proud!

  3. 80% yo

  4. 14 out of 15. Whoo hoo!

  5. 87 percent! Missed Double Indemnity altogether and went against my gut on Mystic River (doh! I should know better!)

  6. I know my movies…and this quiz proves it!
