Vivian Vance (Ethel) – born 7/26/1909
Lucille Ball (Lucy) – born 8/6/1911

So Ethel was 2 years older than Lucy, not younger.

William Frawley was an alcoholic and before Desi Arnaz agreed to having him on the I Love Lucy show he told Frawley that if he ever smelled alcohol on his breath on set he would be fired.

Ironically, Desi was the one who became an alcoholic and that was one factor in he and Lucy’s divorce.
