To get everyone excited for next Saturday’s mental_floss College Weekend tipoff, we’ll be slowly rolling out these conference naming exercises. In anticipation of tomorrow’s showdown between the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels, let’s start with the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Name All The Schools In The ACC In 1 Minute

Note: If Maine and Maine State were both ACC schools, we’d accept ‘University of Maine,’ but not just ‘Maine.’ (Hint: They’re not.) If there’s a name you think should be included, leave your suggestion in the comments. Remember, we’re still in Beta mode with these ‘name x in y minutes’ quizzes. Be polite.

  1. I only missed one.

I was going to write in to say you forgot to allow ‘Virginia’ for UVa. But I guess you can’t accept Virginia because of Virginia Tech also being in the conference (and same thing with North Carolina and NC State).

Obviously, I forgot Virginia Tech. I’m not sure I ever realized they were in the ACC.

  2. 100 - as a Ga Tech alum, I’d feel ashamed if I missed any.

  3. Do the Big Sky conference! Do the Big Sky conference!

    -Idaho State alum

  4. Aw, just 50% for me. I guess I can’t type and think that fast. Still, not bad for a Big 10, no, 11 grad.

  5. What do you mean you “obviously forgot Va. Tech” Shannon?? VT is only THE best team in the conference!! They’ve only been part of the ACC for a couple years so I’ll give you a little slack. But we will not mention “Mr.V”, he who shall remain nameless. Disgusting :^(.

  6. 100%, with 23 seconds remaining. Being a current student at Maryland, I should have done better.

I should add that I got the first 11 in 23 seconds, but took the remaining time trying to remember Georgia Tech.

  7. Do the NESCAC schools! They are clearly the most important in the country…or at least in D3.

  8. Only missed Clemson…but that could be because I spent 15 seconds typing in Miami repeatedly when I had already typed it. Looking forward to the Big East…

NESCAC would be hard! And I say that with relatives who are alums of Wesleyan, Bates, and Trinity!

  9. considering i spent about 50% of my waking hours this weekend watching acc basketball and worship at the altar of dean smith, i should’ve done better than 85%… or just not taken the quiz at 10 am on monday. do the big ten, and see if everyone can name all eleven schools!
