The post makes it seem as if Rabbi Akiva is flayed as punishment for backing Bar Kochba. This is incorrect. Rabbi Akiva was killed by the Romans years later at the age of 120 for teaching Torah. Learning Torah was outlawed by the Romans on pain of death.
Being that Rabbi Akiva was a great sage, his death was held publicly and was used as an example to those who learn Torah of what awaits them. He was skinned alive with metal combs. Rabbi Akiva is one of the 10 great sages killed by the Romans that we lament on the fast of Tisha B’Av.

I think it should be noted that Frank’s followers, after Judaism, tried to convert to Christianity, but while keeping Jewish law.

This proposition was rejected by Christian leaders, so the Frankists converted anyway. Then later, they converted to Islam, and then back!

In addition, Frank was truly a weird guy. There is no other way to say it but that he was weird. He didn’t believe he was the “successor” of Shabbetai Tzvi, but rather, the reincarnation.

Don’t you think he probably meant “ancient” in the sense of “goes way back”?

BTW, Hebrew isn’t just an ancient tongue, there are several million Hebrew speakers in the world right now.
