I suppose the term 'inventor' is difficult to define. A new invention is something that nobody has thought of before. James Dyson is more of an innovator than an inventor. See a product or idea in use and identify where it can be used elsewhere. That is innovation rather than invention.

He's a good marketer that's for sure. A ball is more manoeuvrable than a fixed axle? Only if that axle is fixed both ends, otherwise there's no difference.

His genius is in stealing ideas and selling them as his own. I'm sure dysons profit margins would have been fine if he had continued making them in the uk (they are hardly cheap) but there's no accounting for greed.

The Dyson is really a great machine. It’s powerful, impressive, thoughtful and intuitive (if a vacuum can be intuitive?) I bought one when I bought my house two years ago and am still amazed at how much it picks up; it seems to always find more even with vacuuming twice a week.....
It has so many nice features and is very easy to use. If you’re thinking about getting one....get one!

I got my wife one of the high end Dyson's for christmas...she had been lusting after one for a couple years and I wanted to suprise her.... We have three cats and two kids and we use it all the time and it is a fantastic machine and the only "problem" we have is we have to empty it after each room because it gets so much up....will never own another brand.

I have to agree with a couple of people that the Dyson is not as great as it's portrayed to be. While not terrible, it's definitely not clog-proof. Ours gets clogged with cat hair regularly. And it's the special pet model too! At our other house it clogged up after every room from all the carpet fuzz from the new carpet everywhere. The problem with appliance like this is you can't try them out long enough to see if you're really satisfied with it over the long haul.

Actually I believe his latest offering is the Air Multiplier fan. http://www.dyson.com/fans/

It came out after the Blade. I have yet to see one but I'm very interested to.

I mostly remember the brand Dyson due to the peerless Craig Ferguson imitating a Dyson commercial which references "the proper amount of suction." I don't know whether The Late Late Show has a bigger audience than Dyson, though they are obviously both high quality manufactures ;)

I love the airblade hand-driers! It's so cool and I can see the skin moving on my hands.

As for their vacuums I've never tried one, but then I also have an aversion to carpetting, so I don't use vacuums all that often. I think if I was going to move somewhere that had it though, I'd save up my pennies and splurge on a Dyson.

The Dyson is pure garbage compared to an Orek. The only thing better about the Dyson is the attachments are on board and the Orek has none.

I tried a Dyson in a store and it couldn't even pick up a small piece of dirt from a lineolium floor. In my house there are two cats and a lab, and after using the Orek, there is no evidence of floating hair in the air (think about when you see dust in a sunbeam, that doesn't happen in my house).

The Dyson is put together more cheaply than a Revell model airplane, and feels as if it would break even easier.

Finally, while it is true that the Dyson doesn't lose suction, there isn't much suction to begin with.

Consumer Reports generally rates Dyson vacuums towards the middle of the pack.
