While it's not a movie, I can remember the blatant "Zima" neons in bar scenes during the run of "Babylon 5".

Karin Slaughter mentions BMW in every one of her books. She said in the end notes of one of them that she does it intentionally hoping BMW would send her a car, but it hadn't happened yet.

I have a suspicion that TMNT was responsible for Domino's ending their 30 minutes or free guarantee.

@The Noid

"In fact, at one point that Coke apparently has the power to resurrect dead aliens."

Kanye's new song? just kidding

There is a you tube video where coke has the power to make a sea creature explode. It might as well be a alien, who knows?

I'm surprised there's no mention of Mac and Me. It was a blatant rip-off of ET that seems to have been made simply because several companies realized the marketing opportunity they had missed. The alien is named after a McDonalds sandwich and seems to require only Skittles and Coca-Cola to survive. In fact, at one point that Coke apparently has the power to resurrect dead aliens.

To the poster who said:
"I was really curious how much Chevy paid to turn Transformers into a 2-hour long commercial as well"

Um, both Transformers movies were 2-hour long commercials for Hasbro's toys, not Chevy cars. ;)
It's the ultimate product placement when a movie is based on a line of toys.

Anyway, I'd be curious to know when the idea of product placement flipped from "you have to pay us to use our product in your movie" to "we'll pay you if you'll show our product in your movie".

It used to be that we could go to the movies without seeing any products because the producers couldn't afford to pay Chevy or GM or the cereal companies. Now, companies spent millions of dollars to turn every movie into a long commercial for their products. You know, we're watching a movie- we don't need to hear the lead actor go on about how great his BMW is.

Bones recently has had a lot of product placement. The were driving and talking and they crossed over the center line, the car chirped at them and the driver looks right at the camera and says
the new whatever has accident avoidance technology.

@ Liz -- While it might be true that BMW got advertising out of the Minis in The Italian Job, I think most of the reason why they're there is because the original Italian Job movie featured a bunch of the original 60's minis in it.

@ JP -- I like Evolution! What's-his-name the 7_UP guy was pretty darn funny in it. And Duchovny can play a pretty good straight-man.
