I also think Oprah is a little bit more then full of herself but in the case of Jonathan Franzen, he could have kept his displeasure to himself or at least left out the part that some of her book picks make him cringe which was not only rude but insult even if he did try to sugarcoat it by prasing her. Oprah's club logo doesn't overshadow a book an author worked hard on, it benfits them. If his book sales where weak, he likely would have been grateful that Oprah brought attention to his book.

It is nice to see that others are also concerned with the sway Oprah has over others. I don't disagree with *some* of what she says, but I do disagree with people following anyone blindly without doing their own homework.

Personally, I think that Oprah is more than a little bit full of herself. While she may be famous, her opinion does not (or at least should not) count more than that of any other person.

In regards to the Hermes story, rules are rules. If the store closes at six, it closes at six. I'm sure that employee was ready to go home. Employees at stores don't exist solely to work at a store. When Oprah pulled the racism card, I couldn't believe it.

In regards to the authors Frey and Franzen.... Those books belong to the authors. As far as I'm concerned, as long as those books weren't being marketed as mass history, then the authors each held a right to write whatever he wanted to in the book AND express displeasure at having an Oprah symbol stamped on and overshadowing every copy of a book that the author worked so hard to create.

Oprah rocks. While she is human, and therefore not perfect, she built what she has on her own. She is smart, business oriented, and gets people to read.

Oprah is worth billions... starting a school for a few hundred girls does not a philanthropist make. Tho she may give to other charities, she doesn't even come close to giving what she could. In comparison, impoverished people give more than this woman. We need to stop putting celebrities on a God-like platform. Most of them are under educated and over paid. They are performers meant to entertain us, that is all.

I think Oprah was power tripping when she told her fans to boycot Hermes. If it was time for the store to close, the employee was just following the rules. I don't get special treatment, why should Oprah? Of course I don't know the whole story, perhaps the employee was overly rude, but still, get over it. Go the next day.
