Finlandia is a really wonderful piece, we played it in high school for a concert in Chicago. It was also a highly difficult piece, and I simultaneously feel happy and groan whenever I think about it.

I actually was able to play Finlandia with my high school orchestra in freshman year (i think. we played a lot of pieces). I cant remember it now, but what I do remember is that it was a beautiful piece and I fell in love with it almost immediately. thanks for these music sections! It brings back fond memories.

I’m very happy to see Gidon Kremer mentioned! Other excellent recordings of his that I would recommend cover works by Piazzolla and Enescu. I’ve seen the Kremerata Baltica, a chamber orchestra that Kremer formed from musicians in the Baltic states. All the members are extremely talented and, for the most part, ridiculously good looking.
