As soon as I heard Gustave Eiffel’s name, I developed this very clear mental picture. In my head, he was burly and had a giant handlebar mustache. I think he probably also lifted those giant triangular weights and rode bicycles with the disproportionately huge front wheel.

My fascination with my vision of Gustave Eiffel even extended to the MMORPG City of Heroes, where I made a character called Gustave Eiffel who fit my previous description.

Imagine my shock and horror when I found, then, that he looked nothing like my mental picture. It was a sad day indeed.
