I have to say, regardless of his “hucksterism”, the stuff Billy Mays hawks has not been “junk” in my experience. Ron Popeil, and his father before him, are the gods of telemarketing. I have caught myself watching his infomercials more than once. Some of these guys are fake, but the enthusiastic ones can be fun to watch.

If you haven’t read it, you should read Malcolm Gladwell’s essay on Ron Popeil. I think it won an award. It is simply excellent and can be found on his website in his New Yorker archives.

My personal favorite: Matthew Lesko, the guy who wore a suit covered in question marks and somehow had all the answers on getting government grants.
