  1. I never saw this film, which is odd, since my younger sister remembers it. I was terrified of nuclear war when I was a child (from about age 4 on–don’t watch Vietnam before school each morning), and I think my mom, who taught at my school, made sure I was out of the room/school when it was shown, in order to keep me from going completely over the edge.

Any wonder all these kids who grew up thinking they’d never grow up became the risk-takers (for good and bad) in the 60s? If you’re going to die tomorrow, why not do it today?

  2. Thank you for posting that “Brutal New York” link. It’s amazing and terrible to see such raw photographs of New York from such a dark time in urban history.

  3. The Pneumatic Tubes seem like they were on the brink of a delightful Steampunk version of the Internet. Amazing read!

  4. “It is not recommendable though to apply chocolate bandages to our wounds.”

My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes.
