We must be twins seperated at birth...or something. It runs in my whole family, actually. My bro and sis-in-law roam the streets in their small upscale town on 'Big Trash Days' and have gotten some of the most amazing antiques and other stuff that way. They also built their first home entirely from materials that were tossed at the end of the building projects where my bro was working- all he bought were the skids; the rest, insulation, windows, countertops and all came from building sites (he's a builder so he had access to the dumpsters). It was the cutest little house.

Good on yeh, as they say in oz. I too am still trying to leave the world a bit better than I found it, but that doesn't seem to be a common failing. The current thought seems to be that if we buy enough consumer goods, all will be well.

Keep up the good work. Sooner or later reality hits (as with petroleum and food prices) despite Washington's spinning and twisting. Meanwhile, I'm amazed at the scale of your gardening.

The canister picture was used in a previous mental_floss article, Killer Home Decor. Because of the arsenic. It says Sugar on the other side!

It's seemed weird to me for a long time that people don't just reuse and go thrifting as a normal part of life. If you grow up doing it, it is indeed to hear it described as hip or trendy. It's just a part of life! The playhouse is really cute, btw.
