I spent a majority of my childhood in rural Alaskan towns, where literally everything comes in by airplane or barge and thus is incredibly expensive. Once something arrived in town, it never left, just got passed around from person to person. My dad's entire house was furnished with things from people who'd moved away and sold everything.

It always amuses me when people DON'T reuse everything. It's just a way of life for me. Why wouldn't you reuse things?

I don't know about specs for a shed, but the playhouse is still standing three years later. We don't live there anymore, and it's too small for my kids now, anyway.

The first thing I think of is the question of the safety of the playhouse. It doesn't look very sturdy.

Aren't there any zoning laws or did you build it to spec?

I tend to get a lot out of reusing glass bottles...removing labels and putting different oils or spices in them add to our kitchens beauty, and convenience.

I love this article! You must tell me where you grew up in SE KY, as I, too am from the area. It makes me proud that ingenuity and resourcefulness seems to be a common trait among rural Kentucky natives.

I so appreciate your recycling efforts! My folks were also children of the depression and I always say my mom recycled before it was the cool thing. She wasted NOTHING!
But! I hate that you were unable to save the top to the harp table. Those harp legs on your coffee table are gorgeous, but just don't go with that maple top!

Hey, I have the same yardsale signs!

I think I will try the double bin method on my compost pile. It is a lot of work digging the good stuff out from the bottom.

My wife and I repurposed a solid wood door as a head board and some unused chair rail as picture and mirror frames. Love your posts!
