I grew up watching “Wild Kingdom,” and I couldn’t even bear to watch the video. It breaks my heart to find out that someone I had so looked up to when I was a child turned out to have been so cruel to the very animals I loved watching on his show. It was “Wild Kingdom” and the Stauffers’ “Wild America” that made me the person I am today.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that ol’ Marlin there found uses for some of his rawer footage – he was responsible for the “Faces of Death” video series, which according to my intrepid brother, showed people and animals dying, usually unpleasantly.

My whole family used to gather in front of the TV for “Wild Kingdom.” It makes me sad to watch that last video link and see that a lot of the animals were mistreated.

My Mother was a huge fan of Mr Perkins. I remember taking a trip to the St Louis Zoo (Mr. Perkins was the Director). Mother insisted that the trip be on a Monday because she had heard that Mr Perkins rode his golf cart thru the zoo on Mondays to check the exhibits. Sure enough, there he was. My Mother was thrilled that she was able to meet him. I remember that he was very interested in what we thought of the exhibits.
