New Feel Art Again2.jpg

Johansen.jpg

In the past, “Feel Art Again” has covered only pre-1900 artists and works of art. Today, all that changes!

We’d like to start covering some more modern artists and would like suggestions from you, the readers. While we usually cover painters, suggestions of sculptors, photographers, and other artists are also welcome. Of course, suggestions of pre-1900 artists are still welcome, too.

So let’s hear it: What artists or works of art would you love to see covered for “Feel Art Again”?

(Seen above is Viggo Johansen’s “The Artists’ Gathering.”)

‘Feel Art Again’ appears every Tuesday and Thursday.

    Mark Rothko

    Marcel Duchamp

    Anselm Kiefer!

    Joseph Cornell

    Francis Bacon

    Ellsworth Kelly

    Edward Ruscha

One I do not want to read about: Sean Scully *yawn*

  27. I second Maxfield Parrish!

Oh, and I’d love to learn more about Mark Ryden, and his fetish for Christina Ricci, Abe Lincoln, and other recurring objects.

  28. Jenny Holzer

    Dale Chihuly

  29. I also agree with the other Nikki, Duchamp please!

  38. THANK YOU ALL for the wonderful suggestions!

    We’ve already covered a few of them…
    El Greco: mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/10774

    Henri Rousseau: mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/15101

Norman Rockwell: (a blurb, maybe a longer post in the future) mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/9967

    Bouguereau: mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/12320

The remaining 75+ suggestions I now have should last me quite some time!

  39. I could also suggest

Yves Klein (He has his own color!)

    and

    Barnett Newman

  40. Hundertwasser

  41. Dorothea Lange or Jack Delano. Maybe more historical photography than “art”, but I suppose that’s a whole different discussion, hmmm?

  42. Christian Boltanski
    Chris Burden
    Felix Gonzales-Torres
    Rirkrit Tiravanija
    Maria Abramovich

  47. barnett newman
    keith haring
    marcel duchamp

  48. Andy Warhol!

  49. I second Damien Hirst and Man Ray. Oswald Tschirtner or some outsiders would be cool. Kandinsky was a good suggestion, too.

PS. I have red hair, too.

  51. Bev Doolittle

  52. Just don’t give any of the devoid-of-talent modernists any more attention that they never deserved..

Bring out the ones who were never appreciated by the official “art”.

  53. It always upsets me that contemporary artists get so little attention. My three suggestions: Tom Friedman, Vija Celmins, Chuck Close. I love this series though.

  54. Eva Hess is always a delightful conundrum.

  55. Cecilia Beaux
    Marc Chagall
