I know this is a little bit late, but just read this article . . . and it’s the Democratic National Convention that’s going to be in Denver, not Republican.

As I clicked on this link, before it loaded, I was wondering whether there was even one mention of hockey on this entire site. When the page loaded, lo and behold, there was… the mighty Stanley Cup! (I’m a hockey nut too, but I’m a Capitals fan. :( )

Thanks, Brendon. You’re correct. The wager was reported only hours before Game 1, post-publishing time.

Like you said, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa would send the Los Angeles Avengers Arena League team to Boston should the Celtics win, while Boston Mayor Thomas Menino would hand over rights to the New England Patriots should the Lakers win.

“I say we scrap the tired tradition and go big,” Villaraigosa wrote to Menino.

Arnold’s donating California-grown fruit and wine.

@ Julia: Virginia is no Washington State when it comes to apple production, but it does rank sixth among U.S. states. Gov. Robb wagering apples would’ve been perfectly reasonable, if unoriginal.

Um, bets were placed. Since I can’t link, in a nutshell:

LA’s Mayor would send their best sports team (some arena football team) to Boston and Boston’s Mayor would have to send the Patriots to the West Coast in the event of a loss.

The Governors of the states are exchanging food that will be donated to charity. Boston is doing chowder, but I don’t know what Arnold’s donating.

“St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman will plant a tree in front of the Xcel Energy Center wearing a Colorado Avalanche jersey before the Republican National Convention in August, the payoff for losing a bet on a first-round NHL playoff series to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.”

So, will the mayor or the tree be wearing the jersey? The above quote is a bit vague :)

The Washington Redskins/Marlins hypothetical gift doesn’t make sense.

The Redskins are the team of Washington, D.C.and it wouldn’t have made sense for the made sense for the Gov. to offer apples, even as a lame wager. Apples aren’t really associated with Chesapeake bay area.

Are you sure you didn’t get D.C. and Washington State mixed up?
