elih: Except that they are all U.S. territories (some of them are disputed but nonetheless we claim them) which means that being on these islands puts you in the U.S.

Now if you want to say that none of these are in North America or within the continental 48 or whatever that’s fine… but the title is accurate.

Okay, so when I first saw this title on the main page my dyslexia must have kicked in…I thought it said 10 *uninhibited* spots in the US…

…vegas, burning man, mardi gras…

Most of these are in the Pacific. The Spanish had a very heavy influence on many Pacific Islands due to the galleon trade. Magellon is credited with “discovering” many of the islands and was killed in the Philippines.

Excuse me, but shouldn’t it be “Johnston” Island and Wake “Atoll”? And where are some of these? Because of the mention of the Spanish, I assume that some of these are in the Caribbean.

Sorry, guys, I should have specified – Wake Island is on the other side of the International Date Line, so Dec 8th there was Dec 7th in Pearl Harbor, so it sort of was the same day. I think.

I am pretty sure about 50% of the state of Nevada is uninhabited. There’s no real reason to live there, though, unless you really like dirt – because that’s all you will find.
