According to the full article, 165K represents a year’s supply. Do THAT math, and they’re having sex roughly every 36 hours, or 4-5 times a week. The average American married couple claims to have it 3-4 times a week.
Factor in condom-failures and premature problems, and 165K is either just about right…or a little conservative.

I *just* read the article regarding the condom delivery to McMurdo station before opening this post. The condoms are an ENTIRE YEAR’S delivery for the 1100 people who go to the base throughout the year. There are only 125 people there for the winter, but then others come back in the Spring-Autumn.

I did do the math. 16500/125 = 132 condoms per person. For four months (June, July, Aug, Sept), that’s 120 days. 132/120 = 1.1 condom per person per day. But, because they are having sex with each other, that means that each person can have sex a maximum of twice per day — once with their daily condom allowance, and once with their partner’s. (This, of course, assumes that everyone is always practicing safe sex.) And at the end of the four months, probably have one or two leftovers.
