But you're forgetting one of the best places for kids in Memphis - The Children's Museum of Memphis (CMOM). It's a wonderful hands-on museum, perfect for kids of all ages!

You know, there are a lot of places that people think of as safe that are a lot more dangerous than Memphis.
Personally, I'd be much more afraid to walk around alone in a smaller town like Little Rock, than in Memphis.
If you stick to "safe-places" you'll miss the best BBQ in Memphis!

Be very, very careful while in Memphis. Crime is out of control there, and no place in town is safe. The city was just ranked #2 for crimes, just behind Detroit.

Another interesting destination that my family has enjoyed visiting is the Pink Palace. Actually a series of museums, the Pink Palace itself is a nearly hundred year old mansion commissioned by the founder of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store chain. After he lost the home due to the stock market crash in 1929, the city of Memphis turned the building into a museum. On site are four attractions in one - a natural history section, a cultural history section, a planetarium, and an IMAX theatre. Adults could enjoy all parts of the museum while kids would enjoy most of it so its worth a visit on your next trip.

Back when we lived in the area, my wife and I had an annual pass to the Memphis Zoo. Memphis is a weird city, and I'm not all that fond of it, but we loved the zoo, and really miss it. It's not the greatest zoo ever, but it's steadily improving, and most of the animals seem really happy, which is the important thing.
