The Quick 10: 10 Nicknames Coined By President Bush
by Allison Keene - June 24, 2008 - 3:11 PM

We’re betting that the George W. Bush Presidential library includes a nicknames wing.

1. Pootie-Poot. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. The Cold War is over, so warm, fuzzy nicknames must be in!
2. Congressman Kickass. John Sweeney, Republican Congressman, NY. Also possible title for Vin Diesel’s next film.
3. Hurricane Karen. Karen Hughes, Special Advisor.
4. Corndog. John Cornyn, Republican Senator, TX.
5. The Cobra. Maureen Dowd, New York Times. She got off easy. Dana Milbank of the Washington Post’s nickname was said to be unprintable.
6. Condoleezza “Unsticker” Rice. Enough said.
7. The Brettmeister. Brett M. Kavanaugh, federal judge on the US Court of Appeals. Because no nickname list is complete without a “-meister”
8. Turd Blossom. Former Senior Advisor Karl Rove. Turd Blossom. Just had to repeat that one.
9. Quasimodo. Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney also calls Bush “The Apprentice.”
10. The Decider. George W. Bush. The name Dubya gave to, of course, himself.

  1. See, he doesn’t need to worry about catching Osama Bin Laden or anything. His legacy is already firmly in place…

  2. Can we get some references on these? It’s not that I dont believe he said them all, I do.
    Also…”Turd Blossom”, haha.

  3. One of my favorites because it’s such a silly pun…

The Benator: His name for Senator Ben Nelson

  4. The Benator is a great Senator, so that actually is pretty fitting, as well as punny.

  5. Oh I am laughing myself silly, “Turd Blossom” “Congressman Kickass”. Every comedy writer in Hollywood owes him a debt of gratitude.

  6. Interesting, but I agree with Jennings that something showing where you got this stuff would be nice. Otherwise, it just sounds like another tired Bushbashing.

  7. All confirmed by at least the AP and NYT, yep!

  8. Bush Bashing? Anyone who follows politics knows Bush is known for assigning nicknames to just about everything. I haven’t a clue why he does it, but he does, and I’ve never heard anyone ever complain about it.

If anyone actually wants references (I suspect no one really does) try “List of nicknames used by George W. Bush” in Wikipedia. There are over 40 citations, including BBC, CNN, NYT, PBS, and the Washington Post.

  9. I also don’t see why the fact that he gives people nicknames is considered bashing.

  10. Thanks for the info about references. I linked the wikipedia article as my website (click my name).
