TRUE or FALSE: The Little Big Horn was the worst defeat suffered by the U.S. Army at the hands of Indians.

FALSE! Back in 1791, a confederation of tribes under the Shawnee Blue Jacket and the Miami Little Turtle decimated most of America's standing army: General Arthur St. Clair took 1400 troops with him to "pacify" Ohio tribes; our elders say he was allowed to go home with 600. (About 600 were killed, 250 wounded.)

A pet peeve of this Shawnee descendent-all the talk of the Little Big Horn overshadowing the warfare over the frontier that once existed east of the Mississippi River!
