I remember learning about acid rain in school in the mid-1980s. Chris Mooney’s book, The Republican War on Science, compares Reagan’s years of denial of acid rain to Bush’s global warming policies. Then I realized that nothing had changed. Switch the topic and the denial statements were interchangeable.

Does anyone remember an episode of “Diff’rent Strokes” where Kim used rain water to wash her hair, but it turned out to be acid rain so her hair turned green? Quality television in the 80’s I tell ya.

Your time line was off by a decade. The 80’s were all about acid rain.
I would bet Capt. Planet would be happy with us if we could get Mr. Bush to subsidize the hydrogen fuel cell, to reduce vehicle emissions, as much as he is propping up his oil industry buddies.

hmm, yeah… growing up in the 80s it was all about acid rain, the hole in the ozone layer, and the destruction of the rainforests.

i guess acid rain is taken care of, the hole in ozone is not a problem i guess because of reduced CFC emissions, but last I heard, we’re still tearing down rainforests at a phenomenal rate, but nobody seems to care any more!

I think we can conclude that Acid Rain was not stopped by Captain Planet. Anyone who remembers his theme song knows “He’s gonna take pollution DOWN TO ZERO…” Yet the article states it has yet to be eliminated.

Captain Planet is a stinking liar! That is the last time I help him put asunder bad guys who like to pollute and plunder.

I learned about acid rain from an episode of the Transformers. They were caught outside during an acid rainstorm and it did bad stuff to them. Thank you, television, not mom.
