Up Helly Aa is a celebration of the Viking roots of many Shetlanders. The islands were once part of Norway, but then ceded to Scotland some hundreds of years ago.

The Scots dialect spoken up there still retains a lot of Norse words, and the accent is lovely.

Hey Dave? Could you elaborate on that “olean mo testical festival” please? I have an idea of what it’s about, but a search on it only reveals that it occurs near the Lake of the Ozarks (which is kinda close to my house).

to see just what kind of bizarre celebrations take place in my State: It’s real, it’s annual, and it hearkens back to the days of our forefathers.

It’s also pretty disgusting….
