I actually live less than 20 minutes from where Button Gwinnett was buried... Kind of odd considering it's a few hours from Gwinnett county.

@MetalRose - To nitpick, Button Gwinnett hospital was in Lawrenceville, not Atlanta. And it doesn't exist any more - the much larger and updated Gwinnett Medical Center opened in 1984. Button Gwinnett was converted to a rehab center, which I believe it still is today (my grandparent's house was about 300 yards down the road from BG). Random trivia: Larry Flynt was treated at BG after he was shot in Lawrenceville in the early 80s.

Also, as a Gwinnett native, I feel compelled to mention that Button Gwinnett's signature is the third most expensive autograph EVER, after only Julius Caesar and Shakespeare. His signature is the most valuable American signature BY FAR.

I was born at Button Gwinnett hospital in Atlanta. Although I live in the north now, I will never forget that name.

A nice addition would be John Hanson-- he was the original first president.

I live in Gwinett as well and Button is also memorialized by having a statue perched on top of the Mall of Georgia, the biggest mall in Georgia. And actually, they are going to tear down those water towers soon; really sad :(

Edward Rutledge is a tad less forgotton than some others...as Liz said above, he does get his own (amazing!) song in "1776", so any fan of that film knows his name well.

As forgotton founding fathers go, I would put Roger Sherman or Robert Livingston on the list. They were on the 5-man committee to draft what would become the Declaration of Independence. However, being on a committee with B. Franklin, J. Adams, and T. Jefferson could only lead to being forgotton.

Alex, I'm also a direct descendent of Robert Treat Paine (on my father's side). Objection Maker is a perfect nickname for many in the family, especially my father and younger brother. I guess a couple hundred years doesn't change certain personality traits.

I wouldn't call Edward Rutledge completely forgotten. He gets his own song in the musical 1776 and has a substantial part in the recent John Adams miniseries on HBO.

Robert Treat Paine is my forefather, on my mother's side, but I never really knew anything about him. After reading this and thinking about my family, "Objection Maker" would be a great nickname for my Grandmother, too. I guess it's as they say: Like forefather, like grandmother.
