I got a $50 scholarship and a free dinner with the group from some auxiliary or Lion’s Club type organization for perfect attendance throughout highschool. I was just never absent for an entire school day. Half the cost of a textbook here I come!

When I was in high school the local tall club gave scholarships, but there was a minimum height to qualify. Haven’t all the studies show that short people (like me) are the ones at a disadvantage.

I entered the Rand scholarship contest when I was in high school without any real knowledge of Objectivism… I just thought it was just a standard reader response/book report kind of a thing… Hm.

Florida, if it were “needs-based” the Objectivists would have a problem with it. Since it is based on rewarding achievement which would presumably help advance the cause of Objectivism (value for value), it’s all good.

That said, the sheer volume self-indulgent pap that must come from a contest of high school seniors writing about Atlas Shrugged would be physically painful to read.
