Not only Jefferson and Adams, but James Monroe died on the 4th as well five years later. That’s 3 of the first 5 presidents, and Madison only missed the 4th by a week

In fact, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams passed away within hours of each other on the 4th. John Adams’ last words were “Thomas Jefferson still survives.” He didn’t know Jefferson had died a few hours before.
