In the 45-year history of the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who, ten different actors have played The Doctor (not counting big-screen movies, one-off charity specials, stage shows or audio dramas). Can you name all ten before time runs out?
Take the Quiz: Who Played (Doctor) Who?
Yay for the Doctor love. I only got 6 of them (including the two hints) . . . but since I’ve only watched the new series, I’d say that’s pretty good. Interesting final episode, wouldn’t you say? Still not sure what to think of all of it.

My problem is my horrible spelling. I know all of them, but I spent half the quiz trying to spell their names right.

I’ve only watched the new series as well, but eventually I’ll get to watching the old eps (perhaps during the hiatus).
As for the final episode, I haven’t watched yet. Even though I hate how they butcher the episodes to fit commercials in, I watch scifi’s versions. Still interested to see how this season ends, though.

This is a pretty misleading competition. Paul McGann only played The Doctor in a one-off movie, so your comments about “not counting movies” rules him out as well as Peter Cushing.
But you should have included Richard Hurdnall, who stood in for the deceased William Hartnell in The Five Doctors.
Do I get a T Shirt?

Hey, this is Terri, mental_floss designer (and huge Who fan). For my own amusement, I’ve been sticking a Doctor Who joke in the Know-It-Alls of the past issues. Search page 72 of the Sex issue (S) and the Olympic issue (T) for a giggle.
No you don’t win anything if you find them. But you DO get in on a joke! Isn’t that reward enough?

Terri,
That IS reward enough. Just checked the last couple issues and found both. Amazing. How I missed these the first time around (particulary T) is baffling.

Just being a bit pedantic here but surely one of these Doctors WAS only in a one off special called “Doctor Who: The Movie” so shouldn’t be included here? It wasn’t part of the “series” either old or new.
By the way, my 15 minutes of fame was that I was in the 20th Anniversary special episode “The Five Doctors” so I met and worked with four of them (the original was dead by then and was acted by a look-alike).

Steve and Richard–Forgive me. I’m a newer fan of the series, and I’m not quite sure what’s generally accepted as canon and what isn’t.
I meant to only disinclude the Peter Cushing movies, as these were made for the big screen and don’t generally get included when listing the actors who’ve played The Doctor over the course of the TV series. The 1996 TV movie, as I understand, was done as an attempt to revive the series and is generally seen as part of the series’ history.
I’ve updated the quiz’s intro to try and distinguish this. Thanks for catching something I’d overlooked!

i need to start watching the classic series. i fail at remembering all of them. i watch on sci-fi too. i’ve taken to renting via blockbuster online as well, so i can see them whole and uncut. i’ve got my fingers crossed sci-fi won’t cut the finale. they can’t take 62 minutes down to 45 w/o screwing the entire episode.

It didn’t say you needed to put them in order! I would have got 100% otherwise, boo hoo. Also, I agree with the commenters about Paul McGann. I don’t fuss about things being ‘canon’, but I do fuss about them being crap.

You don’t need to put them in order. I only got 6 (including the two hints). Had we had to put them in order, I’m not sure I’d have gotten more than 1.

I didn’t take the quiz, because I’m only a fan of Chris Eccleston. :)

I got 8 out of 10- I missed Paul McGann and Sylvester McCoy, but I guess that makes sense because I’m least familiar with their stuff.
I mean, I knew who McGann was but all I could think of was his initals- PMG.

Took me 29 seconds to name all 10. And it only took that long because I typoed one of the names.
