I feel so bad for Edwin Booth. An anecdote about him in A.V. that HAUNTS me is, years after Lincoln’s death Edwin was at a party and the host had a set of plaster casted hands that Edwin was fascinated by- he was completely drawn to them and hovered around them until he asked the host whose hands they were. They were Lincoln’s.

*shudder* Gets me every time. I suppose it’s because I, too, find myself drawn to emotionally charged objects and places, even ones that have nothing to do with me personally. I don’t know, it’s like the object or space wants attention paid to it…Anybody else?

And I READ audiobooks all the time :)

Oh yes. Ms. Vowell has another book that was released recently. I forget the title, but it’s about how the US wound up with Hawaii. I can’t wait to read/hear it. I also love her audiobooks.

And it got worse for Robert Todd Lincoln. If my memory serves me correctly, as a very old man he attended the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in the 1920′s. Also present was President Warren G. Harding, this was shortly before he (Harding) went on a tour and died of food poisoning.

I’ve been to Capone’s grave in Hillside, IL, my great-grandparents are buried in the same cemetery, and it’s pretty cool, because people are always leaving cigars and bottles of liquor at his grave.

Another thing about Robert Todd Lincoln is that when he was a boy he fell onto the railroad tracks and was pulled back onto the platform by Edwin Booth, John Wilkes Booth’s brother.

Not only is this book entertaining, she has a new book coming out this fall — The Wordy Shipmates, about the Puritans.

I’m expecting the publication date to bring on a personal sick day with “Book too Good to Put Down” flu.
