Not only is this book entertaining, she has a new book coming out this fall — The Wordy Shipmates, about the Puritans.

I’m expecting the publication date to bring on a personal sick day with “Book too Good to Put Down” flu.

I also “read” this book in audio format. Excellent, informative, and entertaining.

So, for those of you who listen to audio books, do you say, “I read that book,” or, “I listened to that book?” In my mind, it’s still reading, but my friends give me all kinds of crap for saying that I “read” it.

Dr. Mudd was as guilty as sin! He was part of the original kidnapping plan, knew exactly who Booth was, and was a raging racist to boot. Learned this from “Manhunt” by James L. Swanson…another great read!

Just a side note on Seward, it was said that the reason he survived was due to his thin frame and large bed clothes. These two factors caused the assassin to never really make a sold stab at his victim.

I absolutely adored this book. If you can, I would consider listening to the audio book. Some big names voice the different characters in the book including Jon Stewart who is the voice of President Garfield. Excellent read.

Very cool post, especially the bit about Dr. Mudd. I recently moved to Waldorf, MD, and pass all of these flipping signs for “Dr. Mudd’s house” when I go to work. My husband and I looked it up online to find out who this mysterious Dr. Mudd was. This was about 2 weeks ago and we’ve been meaning to make it out there, so I think this blog gives us a further push :)

Another bit of Lincoln trivia from Scatterbrained (”The Hair Out There”) — my first submission for the magazine:

Who stole Lincoln’s eyebrows? When Lincoln’s body was exhumed in 1901, observers reported that his hair and beard were intact — but his eyebrows had disappeared.

…As to why his body was exhumed, let’s just simplify and say there was some disagreement about whether Lincoln was buried in Lincoln’s tomb.

Phenomenal book. So far, I’ve found her others to pale in comparison (though still highly, highly enjoyable). She is also a commentator on the documentary “Gigantic: A Story of Two Johns” about They Might Be Giants.
