How about Alex Zanardi, who lost both legs in a CART wreck in Germany in 2001? He currently races in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (kind of a European NASCAR). He also finished fourth in the "hand-cycle" division of the New York City Marathon last year.

Hey fellow Canadian, Saskboy, don't forget the late Jeff Healey.

I also think the late Christopher Reeves deserves a mention.

Call it my Canadian bias, but I was expecting to also see Rick Hansen, and Terry Fox on this list.

Janek Mela is easily the most amazing person on this list. Most people after being electrocuted are simply...DEAD.

My best bud, Kyle Maynard, deserves a special mention.

He was born a congenital amputee with no arms and no legs. He's become a motivational speaker since he hasn't let his disability stop him from playing a single sport or doing anything.

He's been on (to name a few) Larry King, HBO, Oprah; won an ESPN Espy, and even modeled for Abercrombie.

Just a month ago, HE drove a couple friends and me up to Washington D.C. (from Georgia) to meet with wounded war soldiers at Walter Reed and to go to a ball to speak. It was one of the most amazing times of my life.

Anyway, you can look him up on YouTube to see him speak. Here's one video from it:

Here are a couple pics of him and me (the blond) from D.C.:
