Whoops, my math was wrong.
It should be published 11 years after Toole's death and won the Pulitzer 12 years later...

Actually, Walker Percy took some convincing before he finally read A Confederacy of Dunces. He was first approached by Themla Toole in 1976, but the book wasn't published until 1980.

And one factual correction. A Confederacy of Dunces was published 10 years after Toole's death and won the Pulitzer the next year, so 11 years after his death. (Toole died in 1969, the book was published in 1980 and won the Pulitzer in 1981).

You can read the whole whiny... er... "amazing"... McCain editorial on Drudge. I tried to link to it but wasn't allowed.
(you have to scroll down a bit to get to the text of McCain's piece)

Ha... we actually did have The Beatles (who were also rejected by Columbia records in addition to Decca) and Van Gogh on the original list as well. But we decided to stick to the writers...

You forgot the most famous rejection of all....

The Beatles were rejected by Decca Records in 1962, with the comment that "guitar groups are on the way out." A few months later, they re-auditioned at EMI and were signed to their Parlophone label.

E.E.Cummings is now one of my heroes just for that!

The Twilight series author talks about getting a very personal and nasty rejection letter in some youtube video. She stated that she nearly mailed a copy of her contract to that particular person but decided to take the high road. (I don't know why, I would have an absolute blast doing that, high road or not)

Thought Twilight is nothing compared to John Green's novels. His books are not trash, in fact, they are absolutely wonderful YA literature. I must say, I can definitely spot the Mental_Floss influence in his books. (while I was reading them I went, hmmm, this totally reminds me of Mental_Floss, took me a year to read his bio online and see why exactly I was sooo heavily reminded of my favorite 'zine)
